Entrepreuners Are My Inspiration

My goal of regular writing is this blog faded as the year ended and the new year began.  Well nothing says a fresh start then a new year.  So hopefully I will be my better self and stick to this.

I am always finding inspiration in other Entrepreneurs which is why I, like many entrepreneurs, love the "How I Built This" podcast.  It explores the start-up stories of so many successful companies.  When you are in the trenches it feels so good to be reminded how tough it is, how likely you will fail and how okay you will be if you do.  Often it is that second before failure that brings you to the creative energy that helps you succeed. There are countless lessons in each of these founders stories, but as I see it the most important are:

1) Entrepreneurs have a healthy mix of optimism and naivety that enables them to take the leap
2) It is rarely about making money but about the execution of an idea
3) Failure is an option and embrace that potential but continue to pursue your dream
4) There will be bumps and bruises even in the ones that are successful early
5) Its your vision and don't forget it

I am also inspired by a recent entrepreneur, Brian Hamilton, who I have not yet met but have heard about and read up on.  He is based here in Raleigh and was the founder of Sageworks.  He recently sold his company to focus on his non-profit work which he started while still growing Sageworks.  The Brian Hamilton Foundation serves to provide the skills and tools for prisoners to develop and launch a business upon completing their sentence.  He and other mentors teach and guide these people while still in prison and provide support and resources for them to launch upon exit.

I hope to meet Brian soon and will expand on this post as I learn more about him and his business.  I am so inspired by stories like this as they match my desire to make a dual impact and use my business skill set to drive change.  Well done Brian and all the great entrepreneurs and visionaries out there no matter what stage of the life cycle you are in.
